Florida Prohibits Gays and Lesbians from Adopting

Two steps forward, one step back. With the overturning of sodomy laws this summer and the Massachusetts ruling on gay marriage, it seemed like the United States was well on its way to granting equal rights to gays and lesbians. Well today, we were delivered a big blow. The state of Florida has ruled not to overturn its 27-year-old law banning same-sex couples from adopting children. The saddest part is that it is the children who will suffer. Currently more than 2,000 children are in foster care in Florida awaiting adoption.
