Seattle to recognize same-sex Marriages

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickles announced the city will recognize gay and lesbian marriages performed in other cities. Nickles is a supporter of gay marriage, but because cities, not counties, issue marriage licenses in Washington, he does not have the authority to begin marrying same-sex couples. Instead, Nickles ordered the city to give equal marriage benefits, regardless if the couple is gay or straight.
