Vita Sackville-West: Lesbian Writer from the Past

Discovering lesbians and bisexuals in history is not always easy. Social pressure caused women who loved women to marry and live "hidden" lives. Yet, historians and biographers often discover these secret lives and write about them for us. Yet, Vita Sackville-West was unique in that, even in her day, people knew of her "love that dare not speak it's name." She was lovers with Virgina Woolf, whose character Orlando was based on Vita.
