Partners of Transgendered

I just finished watching the Showtime special, The Opposite Sex: Rene's Story. Rene is a transsexual man who is preparing for surgery to give him a penis and in his words, make him a whole man. While the story was supposed to be about Rene and his process, I was most struck by the struggle of Wona, his wife of 12 years. Rene is so wrapped up in his process, that he is not able to support his wife who is having a really hard time accepting the change. This experience is not unique.
