Butch/Femme: What do you Think?

Tuesday June 29, 2004
In the lesbian community, some people hate the butch/femme labels. Some welcome and embrace the butch/femme identity. What do you think? Does Butch/Femme still have relevance in 2004? Are the labels insulting or limiting? What and how do you define yourself? Join in the Lesbian Life Discussion on Butch/Femme.

I think labeling may have something to do with the type of homosexual community/environment one has grown up in. Some of our community/environment use the Butch/Fem labels to base a relationship and/or companionship on. I also believe women who have been in heterosexual relationships and then realize the lesbian within are more apt to use the butch/ Fem labels.
I am a lesbian who doesn’t believe in Butch and Fem labels. I don’t want to be limited in my choice of women.

Hello !

I’m a 26 year old lesbian from Montréal (French Canada) and I have to say that labels are still there..in 2007…I’m considering myself as a soft butch…very beautiful face and well-dressed ( gay men clothing) short bleach hair ( styled cut) and i’m ok with it..I love feminine lesbian and only feminine women…And most of all..I love to be a beautiful masculine lesbian…i’m macho and i like it…and my dates like it too.. hey hey..
