Oregon to hear Gay Marriage issue Today
Wednesday December 15, 2004
The Oregon Supreme Court will hear arguments today about the status of more than 3,000 gay and lesbian couples who were married here this Spring. Last month Oregon voters approved a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as only between one man and one woman. But that ban is on gay marriage is not retroactive. The court is not expected to make its decision until sometime in 2005, but they could rule any number of ways. The court could decide to let the marriages stand, it could decide to invalidate them and allow civil unions, or it could decide that the marriages performed in March 2004 are invalid. Here's more on the Oregon gay marriage decision.
