Like many lesbian couples, Sue Ellen and Page were together for six years when they decided to have a baby together. Page gave birth to their daughter while Sue Ellen stayed home to care for the child. Six years later, the couple split up. Page tried to keep Sue Ellen from seeing their daughter, so she took it to the courts. Washington State's highest court today ruled that Sue Ellen can seek parental rights and stated, "Neither the United States Supreme Court nor this court has ever held that 'family' or 'parents' are terms limited in their definition by a strict biological prerequisite." Here's more about this important ruling for gay and lesbian families.
