When they brought by beloved 1989 Subaru with 147,000 miles on it home on a flat bed, I knew it was time to face the truth. She wasn't going to be with me forever. I could continue to pour money into her and nurse her along, or I could take the plunge and buy a new car. But where to begin? It had been more than 10 years since I shopped for a car. My old Subaru had been a loyal companion, but were the new ones as reliable? Friends who love their Volkswagens and Hondas went on and on about how much they love their rides.
