The L Word : Marina Returns, Shane Burns

You asked for it, you got it. Marina (Karina Lombard) returned to The L Word. What do you think? Was the wait worth it? She looked pretty good, I do say. But what was up with that whole threesome thing? And will this be the season where Jenny finally grows up? She seems to be moving that way. She’s still whiny with Max, but she did walk away from that tempting triad.
And then there’s Shane. Poor, poor Shane. The girl is just on a path of self-destruction. How many of you want to volunteer to go and save her? Or are you lining up now that Carmen is single? Do any of us think Shane is up to being a parent to her little brother?
As for Bette & Tina, all I can say is thank god we’re not going to be having some horrible lesbian custody battle fought before our eyes all season. What are your thoughts on the beginning of The L Word season 4? Add your comments below.

All i thought 4 da beginning of da season 4 is shane will be back with carmen.. but they’re not.. dat’s suck!..i only watch dis series beco’z of carmen.. it’s really made me sad..but i will waiting 4 season.
I was super excited to have Marina back. She is still incredibly sexy, although I thought she looked slightly better season 1 (if that’s possible)…but it’s not even so much her physical appearance. What sends me over the edge is her voice and that accent! Anything and everything she says is so sultry and sexy. Yeah, I’m glad she’s back.
As for all the other story lines, I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds. I hope Tina gets past that paranoia streak soon, because it is getting increasingly irritating. I mean, I completely understand her anger and I totally felt for her when she got back to the house and Bette wasn’t there with Angelica. She looked absolutely helpless and frustrated, but those comments towards Helena I thought were completely unfounded. I have to say that attorney is finally starting to grow on me, though, with that speech about what a media circus the custody battle would be if Tina & Bette continued to be guided solely by their anger.
Alice is as adorable as ever and I was definitely worried for Shane. I was hoping Kit was not planning on having an abortion, but oh well. I thought her and Angus would make great parents. Anyway, I’ll definitely be tuning in for the 4th season. It looks like a promising season.
I wasnt too happy with the season opener. One, I think Shane needs to get her head out of her ass. Why, oh why is she still pulling this “fear of commitment” bull? She was happy with Carmen and I think we all saw it. Shane is not her father. Two: Tina is being a bitch when it comes to Bette adopting Angelica. Yes, Bette screwed up. She admitted to it and I think she has moved on. Tina is obviously still stewing about it, as she has every right to do. But the most important thing in this situation is the baby and what is best for her. Three: when the hell did Jenny become so “I identify as a lesbian who likes to fuck girls”? I mean good for her, but she seems so harsh all the time. She feels high-and-mighty because she’s had this revelation that she’s a dyke. I don’t like how she uses the word “fuck” in every declaritive sentence. It’s old and its been done. Four: Does anyone else have a problem with how sickly thin Karina looked?
With all that said, I still love the show. It’s my fave on tv and I’ll watch every episode until the end. I miss Dane ever so much. If Kit keeps the pregnancy, wouldnt it be cool if she and Angus named the baby Dana? How about that fake clinic and that creepy nurse trying to baracade her in the examining room?
The ladies looked as hot as ever! I am so glad that Alice has proven to be back to her normal, sane, self. Jenny is gorgeous and I agree, she is finally finding a way to be happy and a little more mature. Shane! Oh Shane what are you doing? Someone needs to help this girl and we can all see Sherri Jaffe is not that one to do it. Why didn’t her friends try to find her? Yes, she left Carmen at the alter, but she also ran off and was aimlessly walking the city with blood all over her face. Seriously, someone could have at least wiped the blood off of her face! Now Shane is left with her little bro- Shay. Who could leave that poor kid with someone they hardly know, and what is Shane going to do with him? I guess we’ll soon find out!
Marina, Marina, Marina. She’s back and I’m sure she’s ready to start causing some havok. (If not on tv then off-screen at least…) That threesome would have been hot. Too bad Jenny had to go and do the “right” thing by walking away.
Bette and Tina are making me a little crazy. Kidnap your kid? That is a little extreme. Bette really needs to get some, and soon. Maybe it would calm her down a little.
Those crazy people at that clinic really pissed me off. Poor Kit, having to deal with that.
Papi. Who is Papi? I sure hope we meet her next week. I sure hope she’s hot…

Okay Marina has my heart but shane has my body.
Well…The first episode wasn’t bad, but seeing as I have seen very little of the first and second seasons (but most of the third season), some things didn’t make sense. After reading the comments, I’ve finally figured out who the little boy on Shane’s porch is!
I got kind of aggravated when Marina came and crashed Jenny’s moment. I mean, this is Jenny’s HUGE thing since the cutting and Marina took away from it somewhat.
Shane…oh dear…I wish I could just step into the TV screen and get her to stop snorting all that coke…actually made me shiver!
And the Kit thing REALLY made me angry. I was so proud of her for turning the nurse’s table over!
The Tina and Bette situation is sad. While Bette should not have taken Angelica without letting Tina know (I know Tina would have stopped her and all), Tina totally overreacted after Bette and Angelica came back. The comment about her being the mom made me angry because they were always fighting with other people before about them both being Angelica’s mom(s). And I’m glad that Angus will not be babysitting for Tina!
I do not necessarilly believe that the nurse did that in the most professional way, but even women who decide to get an abortion should be making that decision KNOWING EXACTLY what is going to happen. Kit’s sonogram picture shows a perfectly shapen head, arms and hands.. why not know what is in your body before you decide to destroy it? Ignorance is easier emotionally I guess… but that’s the American society for ya.. ‘as long as I don’t think about the consequences, every thing will be alright’. right? Is it really easier to have an abortion than just carry the baby to term, deliver it.. never hold/look at it and send it alive to people who would die for the chance to become parents to a healthy newborn.
I just pray that our society as a whole begins heal and learns just how precious life really is… old, young, and even in the womb!

Shane…she walked away…and why give up so easily on seeing Carmen? And her little brother…OMG this should be interesting.
Bette and Tina…I am tired of the Tina is straight now storyline…geez. Glad they are not going to have a custody battle this season.
I am looking forward to Marlee Matlin and Cybil on the show this year….should make for some hot sex scenes…will Marlee bare it all???
I’m happy to see Marina again and I am concerned about Shane and her self destructive slide.
What bothers me, I suppose, about this season and its story lines is that they’re not portraying any lesbians I know. There aren’t any stable couples. That doesn’t portray me, or any of my friends, and doesn’t show the positive aspects of the lesbian community. And that theme song. Terrible!
Perhaps I’m expecting too much from a show about lesbians. I understand that there has to be conflict for a script to sell. There has to be something to move the drama along. But there should be a stable lesbian couple in this show, prominently featured. I’ll keep watching, but I really want something like what I’ve described.
Was I the only one disappointed with the season premiere? I thought it was pretty boring and so did my girlfriend. The best part was the end with Shane’s little brother. I hope the future episodes get better.
Also, on a side note-the Papi thing, she had over 200 hook ups in the same day? Yeah right. Carmen and Dillon should be back on the show
I think it was a great intro. Poor Shane! I’d volunteer in a second to save her sexy ass!! But it’s sad to say that Carmen isn’t in this season! She is by far one of the sexiest ladies (besids shane of course) and not to see her almost blows the show!!!! Hopefully she will pop in once in again!!!!
Ok, first of all, my gf and all of my friends have been waiting for some more sex on this show. It took exactly 34 minutes into the show to get a fast glimpse of Jenny and that other girl (who or what is that other girl anyway?), then 38 minutes to see another glimpse. This show needs some action people! Then, all the way at the end, we think we are going to finally get some eye candy with the Marina, Jenny + 1 threesome, and low and behold, that’s the moment for Jenny’s new-found maturity. Marina is sure a sight for sore eyes. Hotness to the hundreth power!
Now then, Shane, who was once my second favorite on the hotness meter of the show next to Marina, has just become so slime-bally and trashy, that I took her off my screen saver. I suppose this story-line will also come to some life lesson, but in the meantime…very unattractive.
Moira needs to take acting lessons, BADLY, although this storyline represents a valid issue in the lesbian community.
My opinion of the rest of the plots and sub-plots is mostly the same. Boring and far-fetched.
Again, ladies, we know it’s t.v., and Hollywood, and that the actresses don’t really look like the general population of lesbians that I have seen in the past 42 years, so having said that, what’s wrong with some flesh? After all,
everyone’s doing it in real life and it would be hot to see so the show could make up for having to get annoyed at all the storylines.
OK SO I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE MARINA BACK, BUT REALLY WHAT HAPPENED THERE WITH THE THREESOME, CAN JENNY JUST GET WITH MARINA I THINK IT WOULD BE BEST FOR BOTH OF THEM… AND HELLO PAPI. I AM NOT TOO HAPPY WITH TINA AND BETTE I THINK THINGS COULD BE SO MUCH EASIER IF THEY BOTH WORK TOGETHER, THINK THEY HAD A STRONG LOVE…
Ilene Chaiken if you are reading this do you have any idea of what character development and great editing is?? Evidently not because every character on the show does so many things OUT of character and many unexplained exits of characters that the show has become ridiculous. Instead lesbians have been portrayed as a bunch of unstable pass-around Patties (whores) with a lot of baggage. Can we please have at least one hot, stable, and, successful lesbian couple (Tina and Bette S1), Yes, T & B had some issues to work on I don’t want the perfect couple but come on!! Would it kill Ilene to write a character who is an Intelligent, strong, successful, beautiful, single lesbian women minus all the bullshit baggage. e.g when Helena was first introduced she was a strong beautiful business women now she is too stupid to realize that coffee refills are free and us unable to run a business???. I don’t buy it.
I really wish people would STOP bashing Jenny (I think Mia Kirshner is talented and quit Hot!!!). Why? Because she was introduced as a women who was in denial and had difficulty coming to terms with her sexuality and then on top of that we learn that she was a victim of rape!!! Yes, she cheated too but as I stated she was in denial about being a lesbian and believed that her feelings would go away if she married Tim but she fell in love with Marina. I am also pissed that they turned Tim into some sort of rapist at the end. Another e.g. of absurdity is on s3 when Jenny starts to go out with a tran-sexual??? I’ll give Jenny some credit for giving Max/Moira a chance but I believe this plot is highly unlikely.
It’s quite disappointing to see that women have zero compassion for this character but praises Bette ( The Self Absorbed Cheater,) Shane ( The Player) and, Carmen (The Bitch). Come on Ilene
give Ms. Kirshner a better story line so people stop hating her!!! Ilene you are ruining a great character!
I also wish that they would not have made Tina and Kit so stupid. Would it be too much to ask to have Kit be an intelligent business women who overcame her alcoholism!!! I really love all of the actresses on the show but stop making this a soap opera. I want to see more hot lesbian sex, romance, and address some issues that pertain to lesbian/straight/bi- and trans-gendered women!!

Bette and Tina need to give it a rest. Jenny just whines too much. Max needs to get a life away from Jenny. Marina is hot as ever, but where’s the hot scenes? They need to get back towards season one!
I was a bit disappointed as well. Considering how many shows straight people have to see some action, where’s our hour of steamy girl-on-girl?
Shane just needs to get over herself and grow up. She may be hook-up central for the group, but her behavior is VERY unattractive right now. I will miss Carmen — she’s always been one of my faves. It’s sad that Dana is gone, but I’m glad Alice is getting back to her old self. She’s such a cutie! Having (unfortunately) been in a nasty custody battle myself, the Bette and Tina story line hit a little close to home for me, but I’m glad to see they’ve come to their senses and are doing what’s best for Angelica. (I’m also a HUGE West Wing fan, and the guy playing Tina’s boyfriend was a dumb, cheating husband on that show, so he already has strikes against him in my book.) I don’t think Jenny leaving ditching the threesome was a show of maturity at all — I think she really is getting full of herself and couldn’t wait to see her review. And Max just needs to go. He has always felt very creepy to me, and the closer he gets to being a man, the more he acts like a self-righteous, take-no-prisoners asshole.
That being said, I can’t wait for Cybill Shephard to make her appearance. She is HOT, and she slept with Elvis (I’m a huge fan…..), so the thought of her joining our team is very exciting!
Its great to see Marina back. I always loved her. I love Shane too, and feel bad for her..I think she’ll do okay, reminds me of my ex-roommate Shawn, once she got away from the nose-candy she got back on her feet. And I really, really love Holland Taylor! Yes, she’s a rich snob but I love her anyway and she can be so funny (”Two and a Half Men”) I met her in NYC a while back, very sexy herself! (and she’s REALLY a lesbian.) Alice was acting when she was playing bi too…
I never cared for Bette’s taste in blasphemous performance art in the 1st season and find it quite boring when they want to bring kids into the whole thing. Max is interesting because she/he shows how lonely and ‘outside’ he is, once he rejected his born identity to take on one that he/she feels is more his? Okay then, that’s cool, but then DON’T expect to be ‘part of’ a lesbian identity anymore since you rejected it! You picked a side so go stay with that team then…
I feel Alice is just obsessed with her chart of conquests since she’s still hurting after Dana’s death. And WHAT about that anyway? IF Dana was supposedly this high profiled babe then WHY wasn’t she given better medical treatment to catch the cancer in time???
My mother died of breast cancer so I get checked up every year and I’m a nobody…Dana was a bit dense but don’t think she was that stupid.
And Jenny is a waste of film, never did care for that fucked up bitch anyway. Fucked up childhoods are no excuse to drag everybody down with you! Get therapy and get over it and move on!
And I see the has-been actresses are lining up to salvage their careers…so sad. I always liked Marlee Matlin but is it really necessary for her to have a GUY translate for her all the time??!! Cripes, give the translator a cabride home already!
I propose since all the ethnics are slowly getting represented here in the L Word that just one volumptuous big woman be added. My early, first crush was on such a Rubenesque woman by name of Donnata Dini! Everyone was in love with her…she wasn’t fat & sloppy but large and full of life!
Maybe one day, one couple will actually be happy in this series? For longer than a week, that is, and without any emeotional baggage? Is that possible? My girlfriend is like that and she is in no way represented here in this series. She is real, honest, generous, and very sexy.

I cannot believe some of these comments….if some of you think you know so much….you try and write a hit T.V series….I say congrats to all of you it’s a great show….and I have been in a long term loving relationship with my beautiful partner and still find the characters not only beautiful,but quite believable….hope the show continues for years to come…..

Well I would have to agree with most of the post on this epi and the others that covered the season.. I can’t believe that Karina Lombard “Marina” came back only for a teaser for those fans of the season 1 saga. Wow if they only knew what they missed out on the whole undeveloped story line that could have set the L word really up there with the cable company big hitters. But over the last few seasons its become like most a small ripple in the big pond. I would have to rank that mistake up there with the WB killing Prue off Charmed in season 3… but I must regress I still love watching season 1 and some of the story lines that Shane has been through but come on the father knows best and ozzie n harriet routine what??? someone has been drinking out of the toilet on that one. And I hope that Jenny is lost at sea and finds the castaways… Don’t get me wrong I did enjoy the 1st season and the saga of Marina and Jenny but she really needs alot of therapy. All I want is Marina back for a real closures….
