L Word 404: Alice and the Big 'O'
Who saw Sunday’s episode of The L Word? How about Alice in bed with Phyllis? Those of you complaining there’s not enough sex this season, just need to tune in and watch Alice take Joyce to lesbian sex school. I wish my first had been as enthusiastic as Alice.
Bette finally gets to meet artist-in-residence Jodi Lerner, aka Marlee Matlin. Unfortunately, she doesn’t make a very good impression. Jodi is all about freedom of expression and Bette wants to keep the controversial art piece under wraps. Not forever, just for a few hours while the billionaire who’s about to give tons to money to the art school visits. Jodi doesn’t budge and the billionaire balks. What would you do?
I don’t know about you, but I’m as big a basketball fan as the next dyke, but that game between Papi’s crew and Alice’s gang went on a tad too long. Thankfully, the girls were saved from utter humiliation by Shay falling on his skateboard and breaking his arm. Shane, how are you ever going to get the money to pay for that? Well, I guess modeling underwear is better than selling drugs, now that you’re a parental figure and all.
Poor Max. I mean, I really did not see this coming. He finally tells his new girlfriend that he’s trans and the girl goes off. “You’re a freak. I don’t date freaks.” Sure, maybe Max is a little naïve, but he sure didn’t deserve to be treated like that. My heart goes out to him.
And what is Jenny doing with that poor old dog? How far will her revenge go?

Oh my God! This episode was incredible. So the Phyllis/Alice relationship was totally hot and Alice’s noises made me laugh.
Jodi did have a point but Bette does need the money and in order to keep her job, Jodi technically needs the school to get the money.
The basketball game was definitely hot. Why don’t we have things like those in Tampa?!
I feel really really bad for Shane. For one, Shay isn’t exactly her responsibility yet she is taking care of him and has to almost sell her soul in order to take care of him. And Shane’s photo shoot was really really hot. Goodness!
And Jenny just needs to get over that one bad review. She’s an awesome writer so who cares about one idiotic review?
I saw Max getting dumped a mile away, next he’ll get fired.
I have a bad feeling about Nadia, is she going to screw up Bette’s new job?
I loved the basketball game ! Especially Jenny standing there drinking coffee, and I’m glad the girls finally gave Tina the hard time she deserves, ” I think calling myself a lesbian is a political statement” Hah! cant have your cake(sic) and eat it too !!

I have got to tell you the Phyllis/Alice romp in the bed was really hot. I can’t wait to see how this all plays out. Phyllis is very savy and curious, which makes a great combination. I am looking forward to next week.
So far this season, the best character is Alice. I love her sex scenes and this week with Phyllis…it was great. I have watched the show every season so far but I am struggling to continue. Pros: More sex this season than the last. Cons: Shane is boring, what happened to the hot Shane that sleeps with everyone? Her answer about everything is “whatever”…boring!!!! Bette is headed for trouble with the TA. That story has been told before in a million shows and movies, lets try to be different. Hopefully Marlee will make that situation more exciting. As for Jenny, can we kill her off??? She is too much drama. Most of us watch tv to escape the drama in our own lives but no one ever has as much drama as her, boring!!!! And who is Jenny to complain about Tina playing in the b-ball game, she was once with a guy too. Helena…how do you go from a powerful business woman to someone that can’t answer a phone? Losing all of your money can’t make you that stupid. Let’s see some strong lesbians!!! Who have I forgotten…Max…what did she expect to happen? Next she will be fired…predictable! Kit and her butter boy…the butter boy comment was the best this season so far!!! As for Kit…not much to say, I don’t want to watch her boyfriend cry because he is not going to be a star, get a job like the rest of us. Papi…whatever…
My girlfriend and I are trying hard to like this show but we just don’t like the characters very much, we find them boring and predictable.
Amen, Tammy!
Am I the only one complete uninterested in the Phyllis/Alice situation? And I love Shane’s new storyline! I guess I am just not that impressed by women being womanizers. I want to see real stories with thoughtful treatment. So, that’s a big whatever to Papi, too. I would not do her. Can anyone say STD? I also love watching Jenny being completely self-absorbed and obnoxious. Let’s face it, this Jenny is way more interesting then “Victim-Why-Can’t-I-Find-Love” Jenny. If we kill off someone it should be lame-o Tina. Can we swap out Tina and bring back Dana?
Ok girls, I can totally identify with Phyllis as silly as she seems. When you have been wondering for your whole life what it’s like and then someone opens your eyes, you can’t help but be giddy!!
Drug-binger Shane is back on my list as hot, after I removed her from my screensaver. Her low-key style is such a turn-on. She doesn’t have to do anything except exist and it’s hot.
Tina’s a big jerk and it’s time to kill her off. She should make up her mind about what team she plays on, literally, but confused Jenny has nerve preaching to Tina about it.
Alice is so quirky that she’s funny, and I’d love to have her as one of my buddies.
The TA is scary. Thank God she’s of age.
One final thought: too bad the chick Angus is going to do isn’t gay on the show. She should be….
BRING BACK CARMEN!!!!! Dump Jenny - I havent liked her since the start of the first season and cant see why there is so much time spent on her. You call that a basketball game? Even Papi’s team was clueless on how to handle a ball on the court - made for a good laugh
I will say there was much more realistic drama and sex on Queer as Folk than what I’ve seen on the L Word!!
I thought the basketball game was hilarious…Jenny hugging the ball, not letting anyone touch her and still missing the basket with a pathetic shot and then running down court shielding her head from the ball…the comments going back and forth between players…the ‘Barbie’ comment to Bette…Kit’s too tight shoes…too funny and pure fun to watch.
well i dont know how to start it but i love to watch the L word i loved Marina the 1st sec i saw her i was so happy that she is back but where is she?????? so far the 4th season is so blur nothing is out yet im waiting for it but i sitll remmber the 1st eps from the 1st season it says all,, u know how things will go but now we are at the 4th eps still nothing is going on nothing u never saw b4 its sooooo old and known since we start to watch tv its like every eps have its own mind dont lead u for anything its like every scene a diff person write it more than that every character is written by a diff writer im sorry its my 1st time to write or comment but still love the show and i will keep watching it cause im waiting for Marina and the old Helena
Why did everyone forget Dana so quickly? it feels fake. So does Papi, totally corny, the most puke-inducing cliche ever. Its like what clueless straight guys *think* turns women on. If i sound critical, its because this was my favorite show. Next: ‘the kid’;– the acting around this is kind of stilted. I do like Shane taking care of her brother, its totally in character. but i don’t buy the permenantly unattainable, two-dimensional gloss they’re putting on her character. to me, Shane is the hottest woman on tv, but the writers could be more understated about her indepentdant nature and they’d be making her more free… as it is, reduntant, she’s a stereotype.
sigh. i loved this show. is this what really happens when people die? they still go to the same fucking cafe they saw her at every day, as if nothing happened. nobody talks about it. and they’re not avoiding the subject either. she just never existed.
yeah, i agree with many of you about Alice, she really is emerging as the breath of fresh air on this show.
Jenny. where is it going? she’s lost character. what is happening to the writing, the acting? God, i love the actresses in this show–maybe its just the writing that’s gone south. as ‘D’ said above, its like every scene was written by someone different, in the car on the way to work.
