The L Word 405: Bette Tokes with Jodi
This episode of The L Word begins with Max in front of a mirror. He's in his underwear and we see that he has a bulge there. Is he dreaming? No, it's only his "packy," a silicone penis and balls that many trans men wear. Max is then left standing there, naked, looking at his female body. It's a nice body, but one that I'm sure causes him great distress. Especially after being dumped last week by his girlfriend. Max is freaking out and composing a resignation letter to his boss. I warned him about dating the boss's daughter! But wait, the boss comes in and knows about the break-up, but not the reason. Whew! Max gets to keep his six figure salary.
Visiting artist Jodi is giving Bette a hard time. She can't imagine Bette as anything other than the straight-laced art school dean. Is this a challenge, Jodi? The two sneak off and smoke a doobie while the hotshots mingle at Phyllis' party. And the near kiss is priceless. Can't wait to see this storyline developed!
And Angus! You've really disappointed me. How could you let that slutty babysitter seduce you! And don't tell me it's because you're having a mid-life crisis over being too old to front the band. You'd better come clean to Kit and stop that hanky-panky now!
But let's talk about Alice shall we, or rather Leisha Hailey. As I'm watching this episode, I'm starting to think that Leisha is just about the best actress on the show. First, how she handled the scene with Jenny, being upset about Jenny's article in The New Yorker. Funny and Brilliant. But then, as she breaks up with Phyllis by the pool. That scene was just so good and so real. How many lesbian break-ups have gone down this way? Perfectly acted! Which brings me to this question. Who do you think is the best actress on The L Word? Right now, I'm thinking Alice. But friends are equally impressed with Kate Moennig and Jennifer Beals. Cast your vote!
Uh, oh! This competition between Shane and Papi is getting serious. Papi moves in and snatches a girl right from under Shane's nose. Have you ever seen a girl walk away from Shane before? What will Shane do if this persists? Will Shane ever have sex again? As always, write your comments and thoughts below.

This episode was awesome! I felt SO bad for Max because of that dumbass he was dating. I really hope he finds someone that appreciates him for his personality and not his physical being.
The Jodi-Bette situation is incredibly hot. Pity that the whole dramatic Alice-Phyllis situation had to mess it up. I kinda feel bad for Phyllis because she loves Alice but then I also see Alice’s point because who wants to feel like a home wrecker?
And the whole Papi situation is just kinda getting annoying. I mean Shane is so much hotter and yet she isn’t getting anyone yet Papi is just a little annoying whore and she seems to be getting everyone! And the nerve of Papi shoving it in Shane’s face by hitting on the same girl. Oy!
And I am FURIOUS with Angus. I was screaming at my TV the entire time! I can’t believe he would go and do that to Kit after she was pregnant by him and after she never wanted to be with him in the first place because of his age and then he goes and wrecks this really great image that everyone has of him. *Insert negative heterosexual male comment here*
The question was who is the best actress not your favorite actress…the truth is Mia Kirshner is the best actress, she plays Jenny so you feel a full range of emotions from liking her to feeling sorry, anger, pity and just when you think you have it figured out another curve ball gets you..
Without a doubt, Leisha! How could we forget the scene where she finds out Dana died while she was outside?? I sat there on my couch, and couldn’t move. It was so very real and so very touching. Leisha has the ability to make us laugh out loud one minute, and cry the next. She’s the friend, we all wish we had in our own lives!
well ladies i agree that Alice is the one at the pic cause she is the only one who is doing any thing from the begg of the season but still i prefer to watch more actions from the other actress, Angus sonner or later would do that cause no one for real is that good one here refers to the male,,,,, i dont know what jenny wants from the gf of the ciritic but its sad to use the others who have no fault cause u want to get another one ,still likes Bette and im glad that Helena start to be more close to someone we saw at the 2nd season it was so right that she messed up a lil at the party cause she still have it she still the rich daugther but im sure they will make her do better and the next eps ,,, Phyllis will be good its so normal someone tell me that they stayed with there 1st woman and they lived happily ever after plus she still married!!!!!!! WELL im still waiting for the one u know who im talking about ?????? Yes Marina where is she???????????
hey thats me again lol well i forgot that beautfull mom of the play date of shane bro i see it coming she is wonderfull and shane need someone like her to take care of her ,,,, we will see but i hope it end in a good way between them
Would just like to say its brilliant to have the girls back on our screens! Series 4 has so far, been as good as if not better than previous series…keep up the good work! only one problem…bring back carmen!!
Leisha Hailey is by far the best. She’s such a master, easily switching from comedy to drama in the blink of an eye. If the show has any depth, she’s bringing it.
But I’ve really had a soft spot for Shane this season. I think that the whole Carmen experience and then the meeting with her father really shook things up for her. She’s now trying to figure out how to be responsible. It’s too bad that she wasn’t able to try out this new side of herself within her relationship with Carmen. But many people do this. They make mistakes in relationships and try to correct those mistakes in relationships with other people. It’s a weird human flaw.
Who knows what’s going on with Jenny. On the one hand I find her completely annoying and on ther other it’s kinda fascinating to see someone so completely removed from reality. I totally know people like this as well. They draw you in because they have charisma but you just can’t trust them at all.
And Jennifer Beals is showing lots of depth, too, this season. She was such a badass during the basketball game. “What are you doing?” “Shopping, bitch.” And it was obvious that messing with the student was a mistake. This artist is a much better match for her. I want to see this relationship develop.
I totally feel for Max/Moira. It’s great that they’re showing a member of this group that is being kept on the periphery. The gay community isn’t one big slumber party where everyone is everyone else’s friend. Some people aren’t traditionally gay and oftentimes get shunned. I have seen this with people who chose not to subscribe to the “traditional” butch/femme roles but who lie somewhere in between.
I’m honestly disappointed by the writing in terms of organization this season so far. Nothing it being tied up and plot devices are tossed out the window once they’re done making drama for a scene instead of being resolved in any manner. It feels much more loosey goosey and has a feeling of just doing shit for the sake of doing it so the characters have something to complain about rather than to see it through.
As for Angus and the babysitter… I’m sorry, but that was weak. No shade, but come on. That was entirely out of character and it wasn’t built up NEARLY well enough for it to have made any sort of sense. Angus had angst, we get that, but there just wasn’t nearly enough material there for it to make sense for a very loyal and devoted personality to have sex IN THE LIVING ROOM WHILE BABYSITTING CHILDREN IN THE OTHER ROOM. What the heck. And that babysitter was about as seductive as a peanut. The whole thing was just very forced and paper thin, like it was throw in for the sake of having more shit going on.
The Papi/Shane thing is amusing though. While I’m hoping Papi will get to have some sort of personality or depth besides her cute one liners, time will tell. Almost all the storylines so far feel predictable though, so I hope that’s just for now and won’t… uhm, prove that right.
I have to say that while I could sort of empathize with Jenny and still like her despite her… herness, this season I just want to punch her in the face in every scene. So far, for me, she lost all appeal. But I will say that at least she has a personality that is unique and multi-layered, which is more than can be said for other characters they’ve had floating around.
BUT ANYWAY OMFH LOVE THE L WORD FOR ALL MY WHINING.
Tasha is gonna be all sorts of awesome. I’m looking forward to her unfolding.
