L Word Recap 411: Don’t Ask Tasha
A friend of mine has a saying. "Every woman is at least bi after a bottle of wine." But not Kit. The girl is straight, even if she has been boozing. When even Papi can’t turn her out, you know she’s hopelessly heterosexual. Part of me wished this ill-gotten sex romp would be like hitting bottom and send Kit into AA. As for now, Kit's still drinking.
But Kit isn’t the only one with problems. First Tasha is having flashbacks about Iraq and then she’s been called into her commanding officer’s office. He’s got a lecture about her private life being private. He hopes he doesn’t have to launch an investigation. We all know that because of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, gays and lesbians can’t serve openly in the military. And then Alice screws her. Not in the way you’re thinking. Alice shows up at the base. Alice, she’s not a high school principal or Fortune 500 executive where you can just barge into her office when she doesn’t return your phone calls. Do I have to remind you again she can be kicked out of the military for associating with you? But maybe that’s what Alice wants. If she’s out, then she won’t have to go back to Iraq and can come on the fabulous spa vacation in Mexico!
Then there’s Max. I’m beginning to like this guy more and more. After getting totally dissed by his co-workers, taken off a project for going to his mother’s funeral, he decides to quit. But instead of going off on some rage, he comes in and one by one thanks each of his co-workers for what they’ve taught him. How gallant is that? Now Max is going to be working for Alice, launching Our Chart. Speaking of which, have any of you ever been to Ourchart.com? What do you think of it? Comments below.
Max and Grace finally get it on. At first he’s not sure. It’s not his body, he doesn’t feel comfortable. But Grace, who apparently has been around a tranny boi or two knows exactly what to do. And the two of them have sex pre-op tranny boi style.
The students are laughing behind Bette’s back. Is it that Victorian-looking outfit she’s wearing? No, Jenny’s tome Lez Girls has been published and it looks like everyone is reading it. Bette’s students, Angus, maybe even Leonard. Whatever it says about Bette, she’s pissed. “It’s not even grammatically correct!” she screams. But Bette has bigger issues. Unresolved ones with Jodi and Jodi is about to leave to take a job in New York. After wordlessly passing her by on campus, Bette finally rushes to her studio to try and reconcile, but alas, Jodi has left already. I wonder if that’s the last we’ll see of Jodi. Which reminds me, we never did hear from that graduate student again, did we? No wonder Bette has unresolved issues. We all do, thanks to The L Word writers.
As for everyone else: Catherine has kicked Helena out of her hotel so her friend Birdie can stay there. Leonard has called their daughter to try and convince Phyllis she’s not a lesbian, but it doesn’t seem to be working. Tina leaves Henry. (Halleluiah!) Shane throws a little birthday party for Paige. Goldfrapp sings that weird song from L Tunes.
Only one more episode to go. Who wants to guess which story lines will be tied up and which ones will be left hanging?

I checked out OurChart.com It’s pretty cool, but a little limited right now. I suspect it will get bigger & better, as the bells and whistles improve!

To me, this episode was a lot about Bette. I get tired of listening to her at times, but this was a good one. I liked the little jabs at Jenny w/her book, especially the grammar comment. =)
I am very proud of Max for holding it together & thanking everyone. It was good to see.
The Don’t Ask, Don’t tell Tasha storyline really eats at me. I am glad they are delving into this hot topic, but it hits so close to home that I can’t help but get ticked about it. I really don’t want Tash to leave either. I think she has added another dimension to this great cast & helped Alice grow as well. Has anyone else noticed how Alice is more of her own woman now? Speaking of Alice, anyone see the tease for this Sunday w/Dana! I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw that! My lover could only laugh. Can’t wait, can’t wait, can’t wait….doing a little Dana dance in the meantime…My turn to ask~Is it Sunday yet?!?!?!
I really love this show. It has a great dose of hot topics as well as hot women. There is one thing that is disturbing me though and that is the portrait of a lesbian mother. First scene I can remember is Shane & Paige all over each other in broad daylight on a kitchen counter, while two very young and impressionable boys are in the next room. Then there was a scene where that sadio-dominitrix Catherine is calling Helena’s kids brats and ordering her to get rid of them and Helena listens. Lastly was this last episode, where Paige brings her son to The Planet at Shane’s invitation for an all out rock fest at an establishment where the owner is snorting coke in plain view. Hmmm, not sure what messages this all carries for the rest of you, but I am slightly taken aback by the casualties of portraying lesbian mothers in such an unfit light.
What’s everyone else think? Inquiring minds would like to know.
Thanks for allowing me this space to voice my rant.
BTW: I am still sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to see the season finale, putting my opinion of this matter to the side.
I’m thinking of the song “Billy, Don’t be a Hero” a 60s song dedicated to Tasha in retrospect for Alice.
Also, glad to see that Kit maybe coming to her senses by reaching out to Bill W’s peeps once again.
I agree with Dawn, as a mother I was SHOCKED that Paige would take her son the the Planet knowing there was a live band there….hmmmm, she didn’t even want to come out to her son, but she’d take him around a bunch of people drinking and doing drugs??? I was really upset that they wrote that in….not in good taste at all!!
