Oregon Passes Two Gay Rights Bills

Wednesday May 9, 2007
With a simple pen stroke, Oregon today became one of the most gay-friendly states in the nation. Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski signed into law a domestic partnership law and an anti-discrimination bill. Even though voters in 2004 passed a law that makes only opposite sex couples eligible for marriage, with a new domestic partnership law, gay and lesbian couples are eligible for all the state-wide rights and benefits of marriage. The governor also signed a bill that will outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation. Learn more about Oregon's important gay rights rulings.

Oregon is one of the most progressive states in the USA. Often makes me wonder if it is really not another Canadian provence and they haven’t told anyone yet…
They have been way ahead of the rest of the country in Trans/gender legislation and also in regards to Gender Reassignment Surgery within the policies of many of there civil and private industries.
Sounds like a great place to visit, real soon…

Somebody needs to make a difference real soon…For the right and freedom to choose. There are alot of woman like me that have been raped or abused so gave up on guys.I was 10 when my stepfather sexually abused me when my mother was in the hospital having my stepsister..Men they all seem the same alot of times just want sex and money. There is always a reason for being gay and this is my reason.

I agree with Eva - I’ve been in Oregon for nearly 20 years and never plan to live anywhere else. (and I’ve lived all over the U.S.) I love all the green scenery, cleanliness and the friendly people.

But Esmeralda…honey… I think you need a shrink. Did you even read the article and notice how your statement really had nothing to do with it? Just because your a jaded man hater and had problems doesn’t mean everyone else became who they are like you. I’ve seen plenty of kids who were very obviously and not so obviously gay (male and female alike)from a very young age, never having been raped or traumatized. I was one of them. Oh and I’m more than sure that plenty of women out there just want to use others for sex and money too - you cant lay that BS all on the male gender babe….. it’s a human trait - gay or straight, male or female so get over your man hate and move on with life sister. Maybe if you come to Oregon you can learn to chill out and learn to love again. Good luck.

OK, on the off chance that someone reads this and has some advice…I am a teacher from CA currently living and working in India. My girlfriend is in Australia,(Aus citizen) we are tired of long distance relationship status and want to move to the next step…in the US…i know that some states offer state benefits and full rights of priveledge, but would she be able to attain citizenship anywhere? i will seriously move to croatia if i have to…

any advice or guidance is helpful! Thanks.
