Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2007
Friday August 31, 2007
I feel pretty lucky that the city I live in has a law that protects me from being fired from a job because of my sexual orientation. But if I worked in a suburb, just a few miles away, I might not have that protection. As we head into this Labor Day Weekend, you might be wondering, is your job safe? What if your boss found out you were a lesbian? Could they just fire you? That depends on where you live and where you work. Certain companies have non-discrimination policies that protect gay and lesbian workers. So do some states and municipalities. But there is no national law that makes is illegal to fire, or refuse to hire someone because he or she is gay or lesbian. In fact, it's perfectly legal in to fire someone for being gay, lesbian, bisexual or trans in most of the United States. But all of that could change with the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. Find out more about ENDA and what you can do to help ensure that it passes.

I think I went to high school with the girl in that photo!
Did you go to school in the Netherlands? Because that’s where this photo came from.
