Blackout Girl: An Interview with Jennifer Storm
Friday March 21, 2008
The first time Jennifer Storm took a drink, she blacked out and was sexually assaulted. Yet she continued to drink, using alcohol to mask the pain of the traumas of her life. And there were plenty: Friend's suicides, friend's deaths, sexual assaults and her parent's divorce. Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, Jennifer also didn't have any context to deal with her budding sexual attraction to other girls. Drugs and alcohol were her only relief. Until one day, they no longer provided the comfort she sought, only more pain and trouble. Blackout Girl is Jennifer's story of addiction and recovery.
Jennifer has now been sober for ten years. She wanted to tell her story, in part, because she thinks it can help other gay and lesbian youth struggling with coming out and addictions. She took a few minutes to talk with us about her experience. Here is the Lesbian Life interview with Jennifer Storm.
