Who Owns the Word "Lesbian?"
Friday May 2, 2008
If you live in the Island of Lesbos in Greece, you're known as a Lesbian. If you're a woman who loves other women, you're known as a lesbian. Does one group have more of a right to the word than the other? A group of Greek citizens think so. They are suing a gay and lesbian group, trying to prevent them from using the word "lesbian" in the organization's title. Those suing say, the Homosexual and Lesbian Community of Greece, "insults the identity" of the people of Lesbos, who are also known as Lesbians. Oh please — they need to get over it. “Gay” also means “happy” and doesn’t “faggot” mean cigarette in the UK?
Things have double-meanings all the time!
Gimme a break.
I find it more interesting that the entire LGBT community was unavailable for comment all at the same time.
That must be SOME party! And why wasn’t I invited!?
I’m confused….does this mean that men who live on the Island of Lesbos are also lesbians?
I OWN “lesbian”… and I’m considering suing those people for infringement.
ok…so this is like Donald Trump trying to get a copyright license on the phrase, “You’re Fired!” People with way to much time on their hands.
I agree with Tina-cious (first comment). They really need to get a life.
I think it would be great to be a man and be called a lesbian!!
I reference to comment 1 Cigarettes in the UK are called Fags (not faggots). There is also a meatball type thing called a faggot in the uk.
All the best xx
