Lesbian Summer Reading List 2008
Monday June 2, 2008
What do you look for in summer reading? Personally, I like a book that is intelligent and original without being too heavy. It can't be too long either. I have to be able to read it over a few days at the beach. In our Lesbian Summer Reading list this year we've got some new authors as well as some old favorites. Although it's not quite beach weather in my neck of the woods, I'm still looking forward to tackling my lesbian summer reading list.
Last year's lesbian summer reading list.

Anything by Radclyffe. I am especially looking forward to the next book in the Honor series that’s out this month. I’m think of it as a delayed b-day gift to myself.
If you’re in the mood for a thinking book I’d like to suggest Private Agendas (by John Carstaires; a pen name). While it list as a military action story it is actually a complicated allegory of the intense crisis of a bi-gender person who lived as a male and made the decision to re-feminize after 30+ years. It is pseudo-biographic in that the author (an out and proud lesbian) had a career in the all-male submarine community and raised a family as a male, and made the decision to stop the testosterone madness and return to the life she had known until puberty; Life as a Woman.
It’s awesome to see a list like this–now I have something to read this summer! ^__^ Though I’m disappointed that I’m going to have to purchase the ones that interest me (my library has about 10 fiction gay/lesbian books, none of which are on this or last years list) I’m not really surprised.
I’ve recently started reading lesbian fiction, and I’m excited to have your list to give me a guide. Two novels that I’ve just finished and enjoyed are The Best of Friends by R.J. Stevens–a cute story about a group of lesbian friends that work in emergency services– and Uncommon Emotions by Lynn Galli. They’re both quick reads and quite enjoyable.
