Still an Activist at 90: Jerre Kalbas

Thirty years ago, Jerre Kalbas was approached by a friend to get involved with helping start a new organization for gay and lesbian seniors. She agreed to do what she could, as long as it didn't involve speaking in public. Well, she might not have spoken in public, but she did agree to be the public face of gay and lesbian seniors. Jerre's face was part of a poster advertising the start of SAGE: Senior Action in a Gay Environment. (Now called Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders.) At age 90, Jerre is still the public face of SAGE, giving interviews and helping out in the many ways she can. As SAGE celebrates its 30th anniversary, Jerre sat down and talked with Lesbian Life about her life and the organization that has become like a family to her.
