Jane Addams (1860-1935) was a Nobel Peace Prize winner and perhaps the most famous social worker from the United States. She was also the lover of women and lived in a Boston Marriage with another woman. Jane Addams started the legendary Hull House in Chicago, an organization that helped the poor while working for social change. Addams was also involved in the peace movement and she believed women had a social responsibility to work for peace because working men would never be against war.

If this lesbian history had been introduced to me at age 13, it would have had a positive effect on my life.

I can’t help thinking, maybe my life would have been much different in some way. I can’t help thinking maybe I would have been a little more confident and proud to be gay at a younger much age.
