Alix Dobkin is one of the first out lesbian musicians to release an album. When she released Lavender Jane Loves Women in 1973, never had there been such an out and proud lesbian musical recording. Since 1973, Alix Dobkin has sung to generations of lesbians about the power and beauty of living a lesbian life.
Alix is best known for her music, but she had an very interesting life even before her musical career. Alix grew up with a family that was very involved in the communist movement in New York City. Her memoir, My Red Blood, just came out and chronicles those early years.
