Are you a Glee fan like I am? I swear this has to be the gayest show on TV since Will & Grace. It stars the amazing out lesbian actor Jane Lynch. It's about singing and Broadway musicals. (Gay!) And one of it's primary characters, Kurt is showing what it is really like to be an out gay teenager in high school.
He gets harassed by the other kids. He has a crush on the straight hunky football player. His Dad struggles in a real way to accept him.
I have to say, I was kind of blown away by last night's show. Kurt's dad came in his friend/crush Finn calling Kurt's room decorations "faggy."
Dad: "What did you just call him?"
Finn: "I didn't call him anything, I was talking to the blanket."
Dad: "You use that word and you're talking about him." (Points to Kurt.)
When Kurt says he didn't take it that way, Dad says, "That's because you're 16 and and you still assume the best in people."
Dad continues to Finn, "I know what you meant. You think I didn't use that word when I was your age? Some kid gets clocked in practice, we tell him to stop being such a fag and shake it off. We meant it exactly the way you meant it. That being gay is wrong and that it's some kind of punishable offense."
He then tells Finn to leave his house. He totally stands up for his son. It was a beautiful, profound moment. On Fox TV. Although the show is over the top and really funny in many ways, I think they got this exactly right.
Did you see it? What did you think?

I totally agree. I love Glee for the characters and the performances and the music is just so much fun. But the way the show continues to deal with the classic, outsider and identity issues of adolescence in new ways adds a special quality to the show. The relationship between Kurt and his father is full of warmth and charm. Last night, for sure, father knew best, and once again lessons were learned and songs were sung. Love it!
who doesn’t love glee? don’t forget about santana & brittany, dippy!

i love them both, especially brittany. she cracks. me. up.
xoxox sj
While I dont like the dancing or singing, nor do I watch it very much, it has a pretty realistic highschool setting, and last nights episode really hit me. That conversation felt so real between the three of them that I almost wanted to step in and say something.
Twas an instant love XD <3
I really love how in this season they are focusing on Kurt a lot. I recently just came out, so it’s nice to be able to relate to what he’s going through. And the scene with his dad last night felt so real, @_@ super intense. Gosh I love Glee.
I love Glee!!! Back in my day…I went to a high school in Utah…. need I say more? I’m so glad they had a segment on parents standing up for their gay child. It’s got to be tough. It was so tough back in the day, some of us (and you know who you are) didn’t come out until we were in our 40’s. Its really a shame too. I missed so much….
Everything about Glee just makes me smile.Cheerleaders called Cheerios, taping my toes to great music scores and phenomenal dancing.I even ocassionally squirm in my seat in discomfort because I know some of these episodes present very real teenage issues. I have a 15 yr old daughter and really appreciate episodes like this week when parents stand up for their own children’s “uniqueness” and explain why without being a bully. Where friends back friends even when it’s a potentially threating situation, and an individual doesn’t back down or shrink for being who they are!
I hope Glee has many many more seasons ahead.
I thought the speech was wonderful. I am a lesbian and also the mother of a wonderful daughter with special needs so I soooo appreciated his addressing the use of the word “retard”. I’ve seen the hurt that word inflicts and it’s terrible. That word is poison and it needs to go away.
Yes, Glee is so Gay!! Although I don’t tune in every week to watch the show. I don’t watch much television. However, I did enjoy the episodes that I saw. I love Kurt, he’s a good dancer.
I was really pleased to hear Glee performed at the White House, at their annual White House Easter festival.
I think that my favorite scene was Finn, standing there in a red dress with his hands on his hips, “The reason I’m standing here today…..in..a..shower curtain…..is because of you, Kurt.” So touching and so hilarious!
This show has redefined gay, it makes all the queers I’ve ever known known look straight by comparison.
This is why I no longer watch television, it’s become so dumbed down and childish and/or everything has to be a political statement.
Absolutely classic, its awesome! I just love how everyone at home says glee’s gay and i’m just like… yeahhhhh lol…
Did you know there’s debates that the guy who plays Jesse shouldn’t even be allowed to play a straight guy because the actor’s gay =S even when, come on, its acting …
I definitely agree. Glee is wonderful because it is usually fun and can be so campy and over the top, but the writers know when a scene should be serious and emotional. The moment between Kurt, Finn and Kurt’s Dad was one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve seen on tv, and the lesson learned is one that should be taught far more often!
I love Glee, too, and it was super powerful to watch Kurt’s dad stand up for him in that way. On the other hand, and please forgive my memory of the specifics since I haven’t actually seen this episode for several weeks, Kurt was being extremely disrespectful to Finn by coming on to him so strongly, pushing their parents together so they could live together and whatnot. Kurt pretended like he didn’t have any part in Finn’s discomfort, but I don’t totally buy that.
I love glee, infant I stated takingy “Music vocal” lessons pretty seriously , me and my girl we’ve written a ballad together, but I have A HUGE Confession to make!!!! I think I might be partly gay and partly straight, I like to get busy with both, but my feelings for sex are more Roth guys but however with girls , I have emotional bond!! Who should I settle for,…..the heart wants,…what the heart wants…! Right? My therapist here , told me I might be bi, I’m only 17, can I come to a conclusion about my sexuality!!!! Help!! It’s like ” I like “Brokeback mountain & Titanic”
Help guyzzzzz!!!!
i think its gay
What a joy to find such clear thiiknng. Thanks for posting!
