Rick Santorum on LGBT Issues

By , About.com Guide   January 6, 2012

Follow me on:

I was really surprised at the strong showing Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum had in the Iowa caucuses. Rick Santorum finished a very close second, just behind candidate Mitt Romney. Rick Santorum is a man whose homophobic views include comparing gay sex to incest and bestiality. Could this man really be our next president?

Yesterday I typed out one of my long comments but it has been edited down to:

US federal law allowed slavery and still continues to allow discrimination against certain citizens. Now this joker wants to once again have laws to take away the human rights of some citizens to choose their mate and live freely protected by the same law that he takes for granted is his right simply for being a white heterosexual male.

And sadly, with a sigh and a head shake, I say many who are descendants of those who were oppressed think that it is all right for them to now discriminate against those who are different than they are. They feel powerless as they are manipulated by bad religious leaders and mean politicians and now they have the power to manipulate the lives of others.

Evil hearts, bigotry, lies and just plain nastiness has never been strong enough to stop the oppressed and keep the truth hidden forever. The smiling fake masks are being peeled away to reveal what is hiding behind the facade.

I live in South Africa where we do have equal rights to hetero couples. I have ‘married’ (it’s called a civil union) my partner and we are very lucky that legally we are able to do that. That being said, there is still very little acceptance of gay people down here. Often I wonder which is worse – worrying about your family’s safety because you hold your wife’s hand in public, or not being able to marry your wife but knowing your family is safe if you hold her hand while shopping.

That being said, it is scary that there are well educated people out there who think that loving someone enough to marry them, is the same as bestiality. Absolutely shocking!

i know. OMGosh. and to think a mormon might get in horrifies me. they are such bigots they won’s allow blacks as bishops, women as bishops, or gays and lesbians to be in their cult if they suspect you are. And even though I don’t drink, what in the world do all the alcohol consuming people of the USA think he says about them? I can hardly believe the ignorance of the American voter today !
