I have to admit, reading Donna Mae DePola's Twelve Tins was not easy. Donna Mae is the survivor of childhood sexual abuse and daily molestation from her father from the age of five to 17 when she left home. Donna Mae admits that it took her a while to even realize that having sex with her father was wrong. It wasn't until after his death, when she discovered twelve film canisters documenting the abuse, that she decided to tell her story. The result is Twelve Tins, a memoir about surviving and thriving. Donna Mae DePola is an out lesbian and she spoke with Lesbian Life about why she wanted to tell her story.
