Last week Maine became the latest state in the US to allow same-sex couples to marry. Like most other states that have passed similar legislation, gay and lesbian couples lined up for the chance to celebrate their love right when the law went into effect. That meant showing up at midnight on December 28th and braving the cold Maine night. Plenty of couples showed up and so did supporters. There were bands and boutonnieres and flowers and cupcakes. But most of all, there was love. Here are some scenes from that night in Portland, Maine.
