Guide Review - From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun
From the Notebooks of Melanin Sun is by Jacequeline Woodson, one of my favorite writers for young adults. Although this isn't one of her best books, the story of African American Melanin, whose mom falls in love with a white woman, deals deftly with the issues of racism and homophobia. Melanin has a really hard time with his mom's lesbianism, although realistic, it may turn off some readers.
