A novel about being different and Loving it

About.com Rating four out of Five

By Kathy Belge, About.com

Whether you're just coming out or have known your identity for some time, it's always nice to read about someone whose life resembles your own. Here's one of my favorite picks for youth and adults alike!

Rita Mae Brown's breakthrough novel

Rubyfruit Jungle by Rita Mae Brown First published in 1973 this timeless story is authored by one of the funniest lesbian writers of our times. Molly Bolt grows up a bastard child in the South. With great self-confidence and exuberance, Molly creates trouble wherever she goes. She has her first girlfriend in the 6th grade, falls in love with the head cheerleader in high school, and goes to New York City to become a famous filmmaker. Molly Bolt is one character you'll remember for a long time.
