Question: What do kids with gay parents call them?
When there are two moms or two dads, what do the children call their parents?
Answer: Gay and lesbian families get creative when it comes to the names they want their children to call them. Here are some things to think about if you're planning on having children and wondering what you want them to call you.
- Some simply use Mom and Mom.
- Others add their first names to the equation: eg: Momma Sue and Momma Sandy or Mommy Karen and Mommy Kathy
- Some use their first initials. Like Mommy L and Mommy T.
- Some say Mom and Momma
- I've heard Mom and Ma
- I have a friends who use Mom and Imah (the Hebrew name for mother)
- I suppose going off the above example it could be Mom and Madre, or Mom and Mami, or Mom and Mamá, or Mom and Mamma
- I've heard of couples that use Mom and Mema
- Sometimes one parent will be Mom and the other will use her first name. Eg. Mom and Sherry
- Sometimes both parents will use their first names
Gay men use similar variations of the above. There's a famous children's book out called "Daddy, Papa and Me"
- Some gay parents use Dad and Daddy
- Some use Dad or Daddy or one and Pop or Papa for the other
- I've heard of guys using Daddy and Poppy
- Dad and Pa
