Amber Heard Comes Out:
Amber Heard was one of the guest speakers at the The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) media awards in Los Angeles 2010. She credited GLAAD for her ability to come out in an interview with AfterEllen.
I think GLAAD is one of the many reasons that I, as a 24-year-old, can come out. I think that organizations like GLAAD make that possible because if it weren’t for opinions being changed, people being influenced, people being engaged to do the right thing, then there would be no prerogative for anyone to come out. Like I said, I can’t be a part of the problem.
Who is Amber Heard's girlfriend?:
Amber Heard has been dating Tasya van Ree since 2008. She is a photographer, filmmaker and artist.
Amber Heard the Activist:
In her interview with AfterEllen.com, Amber Heard said about her participation in the GLAAD media event:
"I think when I became aware of my role in the media, I had to ask myself an important question "Am I part of the problem?" And I think that when millions and millions of hard-working, tax paying Americans are denied their rights and denied their equality you have to ask yourself what are the factors that are an epidemic problem and that’s what this is. Injustice can never be stood for. It always must be fought against and I just was sick of it being a problem."
Amber Heard even has a section on her official website dedicated her activism. She lists gay rights issues, Habitat for Humanity and Amnesty International as causes she is passionate about.
Amber and her girlfriend were also photographed protesting against Prop 8 in California. She appears in several short films made by Tasya van Ree about equality. In one at a Prop 8 rally holding a sign that says, "We the People, That means all of us." In another, she has an equality statement painted on her body.
