Tatum O’Neal was my first screen crush. She was the highlight of Bad News Bears. I joined the local little league in search of her. I didn’t find her, but I did find a cute second baseman named Mercy. We became “best friends” and junior high was really fun.
I love movies. I didn’t really have a choice given the older brother that I had. Stephen would force me to watch Mame, West Side Story, Ordinary People and anything with Shirley Temple. Oscar night was more revered than Christmas.
My wife Alyson is a documentary filmmaker and instructor. Let’s just say I married the movies. Some people enjoy role playing like a doctor and a nurse or a teacher and a student – we like role playing Siskel and Ebert. When we were first dating, I had to impress her with my movie knowledge. I stayed up night after night watching rentals, preparing for our dates just so I could charm her with, “Oh, did you see Catherine Deneuve in Indochine?” I guess it worked.
