Where's the Happy Ending?
Ok, girls! We need some happy endings! I am getting tired of the girl does not get girl film conclusion. Im still upset about Thelma and Louise. Couldnt they have escaped to Canada, gotten married, settled down and had a family? Is that too much to ask?
Bittersweet Lesbian Love Story
My wife the Director and I saw yet another weeper this weekend, Round Trip by Shahar Rozen. Round Trip focuses on the love story between Nurit, a single mom who has left everything she knows to find happiness in the big city of Tel Aviv, and Mushidi, an illegal immigrant from Ghana, whom Nurit hires to care for her two small children. These women find each other through rather vast cultural and contextual distances. Their attraction is subtle though palpable and beautifully portrayed by both actresses. Although the ending is rather bittersweet, the film and story line are quite compelling.
How Far Have we Come?
Round Trip is a film that makes you pause and consider how far we have come and how far we have to go before we are can love fully and equally in this world.
I rate it 4 stars. Go see it, but bring some tissues and your journal. Start thinking of fantasy film endings. Like, Jodie Foster and Gillian Anderson kissing passionately on a beach in Puerto Rico or Clea Duvall and Leisha Hailey seamlessly entwining on the Girl Bar dance floor
