Lesbian Pubic Hair
To Shave or Not to Shave?

By Kathy Belge, About.com

Do lesbians shave their pubic hair? What do lesbians prefer, shaved or natural bush? One lesbian who is coming out of the closet wants to know, what is the proper etiquette for lesbian sex: shaved or natural?
Here is her letter:

I just came out a couple months ago and am dating this great girl. She is very sexually experienced, but I have never had sex. We both want the first time to be very special and she is totally up for waiting until I'm ready. I don't really know anything about lesbian sex at all. I was just wondering if there is an unwritten "rule" regarding pubic hair? Shaved? Or not shaved? I just don't want to be embarrassed about it.
Signed,
Wondering about the Bush

Dear Wondering,
I took an informal poll of my friends with age ranges in their 20s to 40s. Only one of that group preferred a shaven pubic area on herself and her partners. Most of the lesbians I spoke to preferred a natural bush. One woman admitted she "trimmed and shaped" hers.

Your Pubic Hair is Your Business

My advice to you is to do what you feel most comfortable with. Afterall, it's your body. I would never recommend doing something that you don't want to do in order to please a partner. If she asks you to shave for her, make sure it is something you are really interested in trying before you do it. I have been told, waxing and shaving can leave you with uncomfortable rashes or itching when the hair grows back.
