Question: Can You Get HIV or STD if Neither Person Has it?

I've been reading up on how to have lesbian safer sex, but I was wondering if it's possible to get an HIV or STD if neither party has one to begin with.

Answer: In order to contract a sexually transmitted disease or HIV, you need to come in contact with the virus that causes the disease. If both partners are STD-free, then no, you cannot contract STD or HIV from one another.

However, you should be aware that someone can have an STD and not know it. Many STDs do not show immediate symptoms.

Therefore, it is recommended that you follow safer sex practices until you know for certain yours and your partner's status.
