The good news is that this year there are more lesbian, gay and bisexual characters on TV than ever before. Although television is still lacking a transgender character on any major network TV show, there are more lesbians and bisexual women than ever before. If you're like me and want to tune in and see how the lesbians are represented, here is the Fall 2010 line up of lesbian and bisexual characters on Network Television.

Lead Characters:

  • Grey's Anatomy/ABC character Callie Torres (played by Sara Ramirez) is bisexual.

Supporting Characters

  • 90210/The CW character Adrianna Tate-Duncan (played by Jessica Lowndes) is bisexual.
  • Bones/Fox character Angela Montenegro (played by Michaela Conlin) is bisexual.
  • The Good Wife/CBS character Kalinda Sharma (played by Archie Panjabi) is bisexual.
  • Grey's Anatomy/ABC character Arizona Robbins (played by Jessica Capshaw) is lesbian.
  • Hellcats/The CW character Patty Wedgerman (played by Elena Esovolova) is lesbian.
  • House/Fox character Thirteen (played by Olivia Wilde) is bisexual.
  • Outlaw/NBC character Lucinda Pearl (played by Carly Pope) is bisexual.
That's a lot of bisexual women. Cable TV also has its fair share of lesbian and bisexual women. Here's a rundown:

Lead Characters

  • Nurse Jackie/Showtime character Dr. Eleanor O'Hara (played by Eve Best) is bisexual.
  • Pretty Little Liars/ABC Family character Emily Fields (played by Shay Mitchell) is bisexual.
  • Skins/BBC America has two lesbian characters Emily and Naomi (played by Kathryn Prescott and Lily Loveless.)
  • Skins (US Version)/MTV character Tea (played by Sofia Black D'Ella) is lesbian.

Supporting Characters

  • Archer/FX character Pam (played by Amber Nash) is lesbian.
  • Pretty Little Liars/ABC Family character Maya St. Germain (played by Bianca Lawson) is lesbian.
  • Stargate UniverseSyfy character Camile Wray (played by Ming-Na) is lesbian.
  • True Blood/HBO character Pam (played by Kristin Bauer) is lesbian.
  • White Collar/USA character Diana Barrigan (played by Marsha Thomason) is lesbian.

Although there is greater recognition of people of color, GLAAD notes that there is a lack of African American LGBT characters on TV. The only black lesbian or bisexual women on TV this Fall are Maya on Pretty Little Liars and Diana on White Collar.
