What is a GSA?

By Kathy Belge, About.com

Question: What is a GSA?
Answer: GSA stands for Gay Straight Alliance. A Gay Straight Alliance is a group, usually in high school, but sometimes in colleges and even in some companies. The purpose of gay straight alliances is for gay, lesbians, bisexuals and their allies to come together to support one another and to help make their school or workplace a more accepting environment.

Some schools think GSAs are controversial, but studies have shown that students who attend gay straight alliances positively affect student academic performance, family and social relationships and comfort level with sexual orientation.
