How did you come out to your parents?
I also was outed by a "friend." I told her about me and my new girlfriend. I told her and the next thing I knew I got a phone call from my brother in Iraq asking me who I pissed off cause there was a rumor going around that I was gay. I told him that it was true and he hung up... I then got a phone call a few days later from my grandparents (they raised me and my brother) asking me if I was gay. My brother called them and told them. My aunt and uncle told me they didn't care I'm the same person, but my grandparent had a time with it. Yy mom told me not to come back to her house if i was going to be gay
What did you say?
I was so mad! I was betrayed... We didn't talk for a couple months. She tried to get a hold of me but I couldn't talk to her. When I finally did she cried and cried about how sorry she was. She didn't think telling a few people would out me to my family. But in a little town, I was the highlight for around 5 or 6 months. But then when I think about it, if she wouldn't have said anything I don't think that I would have ever came out. I know life is easier this way for sure!
Advice
- Give your family time! I did and now we are going back to Arkansas with our puppies for Thanksgiving.
- Only let other gay people know when you come out. They are the only ones that understand the need for respect...
