How did you come out to your parents?

One night, I was supposed to go to a party. I was planning on telling my parents about being bisexual, but my mom was the only one home. I slid a note under her bathroom door while she was in the shower and I ran outside and waited.

What did you say?

I told my mom in the letter that I was bisexual, and that I didn't know what she'd think about it or anything. I just know that I was positive about it, and I was attracted to both boys and girls. My mom thought I was joking at first, then she thought it was just a phase or me trying to be like someone else. But I wasn't. When she told my dad, he was more supportive of me, and he said he loved me no matter what. But they seemed to be embarrassed by it and didn't want me to even tell anyone..

Advice

  • I think that making it face to face would've made it much harder for me, but it might be a better choice. I think that it would've been smarter to bring it up again in the future, to let them know for sure that it isn't just a phase I was going through. But we still have never mentioned it to this day, not even once. and I'm starting to think I should bring it up. They don't really act like anything's different, and sometimes it seems like they forgot.
