How did you come out to your parents?
I knew I was a lesbian since I was 11 and had kept it well hidden until I was 16, then when I was at college one of my friends told the whole class so I went into denial. Then at the age of 26 I told my mum when I was drunk, she thought it was just a phase so I had to keep talking to her about the women I liked and who I was attracted to. It took her awhile to accept it but I think she finally has come to terms with it.
What did you say?
She kept asking me if I was sure if I was and she said she was worried about other people's reactions. She also said she wouldn't abandon me because I am a lesbian. I asked her to tell the whole family for me and they are homophobic but they have changed their views now that they know I am a lesbian
Advice
- Make sure that it is the right time to come out for you and don't let anyone pressure you into doing it. Also try to talk to someone who you can trust
