How did you come out to your parents?

i told my mom in the car. i showed her a website and she asked about it so it pretty much came out right there in the car and she hasn't really spoken to me since

What did you say?

me: i think i'm bisexual

mom:and when did you come to that conclusion?

me: a few days ago

mom: who have you told?

me:my therapist and my bf (friends name)...

mom: i'm so sick of that *&^%^& (friends name)!!!

me:...

mom:and what did she say

me:who

mom: (Friends name)!

me:well it turns out she is Bisexual too...

mom:and i guess that is supposed to be a coincidence that you told her you were bi and she said she was too huh?!?!?!

me: she said that b4 i told her i was bi!!!

*then we get out of the car...and haven't spoken after tht*

(it's been 1 day since this dicussion)

Advice

  • nothing went well. it was pretty much a big argument and i wasn't sure if she was mad because i was bi or me and my friend were both bi its been about a day and she still isn't talking to me much. i feel like a stranger in somebody elses house.
  • what i would have done differently was tell her when we got home so we would be able to actually discuss our concerns
  • we don't really talk to each other much

Hang in there. Hopefully she will come around. It's sometimes a hard adjustment for parents to make.
