How did you come out to your parents?
I'm 17 and still in school. It was a few weeks until my school formal, all the girls were looking for high heels, dresses, accessories etc, but for me i was looking for jeans, shirt and vest..My mom was probably more than disappointed about what I wanted to wear. So I just wore a vest and pants to the formal. A few days later mom confronted me about it, she came and sat on my bed with me. We were talking and she said "Do you think you are gay?" I denied it, but then she said "It doesn't seem like it" so I replied with "Yeah mom I'm gay, it's clearly obvious, you have all questioned me about it"
What did you say?
When I had said to mom that I was gay, I will never forget the facial expression she had on her face. She was shocked. Mom seemed a little bit weird about it for a few days, but she eventually got over it. About 20 minutes after I told her she came into my room and said "Life is still the same you know, nothing is different". When she said that it made the whole situation a whole lot easier, I knew that she had accepted it.
Advice
- I think coming out went very well, it wasn't as bad as I expected. I wasn't really planning on coming out at this age, it was planned for later on in life. There isn't much I would do differently, I mean it's easier when your parents ask you face to face compared to you telling them, there isn't as much fear in telling them. Me and my mom get along very well, she has not bought up the issue at all, which I'm guessing she is fine with it all. It made life easier since I told her.
