My Family Didn't Accept It

How did you come out to your parents?

I didn't, when I was growing up I was always attracted to someone in my high school class and my parents knew this but it couldn't be discussed.

What did you say?

When I came home from the military I brought a woman with me I was involved with in the military. My parents saw how close we were but it still couldn't be discussed. My mother was one of those deeply religious people who believed gay people are going to hell. Periodically she would make comments to that affect. My former sister in law became a born again Christian, she told my nephew I was gay, my idiot brother has decided he doesn't want anything to do with me anymore. I tried to be nice to all of them and help them over the years because they were family.

Advice

  • I have never until recently found any people who would help me feel good about myself and who I am. I don't care to associate with what blood family I have. I was born the way I am and only care what God thinks of me. My family is a real disappointment to me. A person must lead their life as they see fit, my advice is to find people who will accept you the way you are and stay away from the rest.
