My Sister Told My Mom I was Gay

How did you come out to your parents?

Actually my sister came out for me.

It was kind of odd...

What did you say?

So I found out I was Gay in 6th grade and finally told my cousin in 8th grade. My sister overheard the conversation and the next day, she told my mom. My mom looked at me in shock. At first she thought it was one of those just following what everyone else is doing thing but when I brought my first girlfriend home my freshmen year she was surprised.

She didn't mind that much she just had to get used to it. Since then I have recently came out to the rest of my family knowing that the girl I'm with now, I want to be with for the rest of my life. Knowing that they have been very supportive.

But just because my coming out experience was fairly well doesn't mean that is how it will be for everyone.

My Girlfriend recently came out to her family and she is still paying the price for it :(

She told them and her older sister won't accept her, her mom won't accept her and she made us "Break up," she makes he go to counseling thinking that she can change who she is, her dad disowned her and we never see each other besides school. Being that she is still in high school and lives with her parents she has to abide by their rules, until she can move out after graduating.

Advice

  • My main suggestion would be for people to wait until it is the right time. If you know your parents are going to be supportive then tell them. If you know they are going to not like it in anyway, I would wait until they can't do anything about it, they either have to accept it our they won't.
  • AND accept that being Gay, Bi, Trany, Les. is who you are, no one can change you, and it is harder for us.
  • Be strong.
