How did you come out to your parents?

Okay it started when i was in third grade i realized the truth. I know i was pretty young i was in denial for 4 years. But at the beginning of 7th grade i realized i had a crush on my friend Skye and i had for a long time. My parents had always said Just tell us and we will help. But when i told my mom she said don't tell your father and then she said i didn't know what i was talking about. Then in January 2010 this year i wrote a note. And it said that i was gay and i left it on the kitchen counter. When my parents found it they treated me worse then the dog for a month but we are working on it. It is getting better.

What did you say?

When i got home from school. My dad wasn't there and my mom was in tears

Mom: Why did you do this to us,Why?

Me: I wanted you guys to know.

Mom: I know i told you not to tell your father (she was yelling)

Me: because it is the truth. (i started crying)

Mom: WHY WHY WHY?

Dad: walks in the house- All goes quiet

Don't talk to my parents for two days

Me: I apoligize to my dad

Dad: You just want to cause problems in this family and you don't even know if its true you're too young to know.

Me: Okay Okay (best way to calm him down agree)

Dad: why did you do this i wouldn't have minded even if you weren't lying (He still won't talk about me being gay)

Me: I am Sorry

Dad: Quit your f***ing crying there is no pity group here.

Dad: He goes to his bedroom

Me: I go to my computer and to about and coming out to your parents stories

Dad: treats me like crap for a month

(they won't talk to me about it. Things are improving. A little)

You know in the army don't ask don't tell is sometimes they best way to deal with something.

Advice

  • Don't tell unless you know your parents will be there for you
  • If not don't tell till you are out of the house
  • If you are young you can still know you are gay so don't let people tell you other wise
  • Expect to get your feelings hurt
  • Don't think you are a freak because your parents don't or don't want to understand you are fine you are normal. Because normal is an opinon and you are fine the way you are.
