Where I met my partner?
She answered a personal add I placed in the Willamette week almost 12 years ago. We had our first date at the Lucky Lab on Hawthorne. I was going on a lot of five minute dates, as I called them at the time, going down the list of all the responses I had to my ad in the paper. Turns out she had answered one other ad aside from mine but she passed on meeting that person because she was a smoker. I almost passed on meeting her because she had a 4 year old boy and I wasn't sure if I wanted to get involved with someone who most likely had an ex of some sort that could complicate any future we might have.
How we fell in love
I wasn't so sure I was interested in her but it was clear she was interested in me at the end of the date when she asked me to go out again. I'm usually a bit more intense than I was on this first date with her. Turns out that was a good thing because had I been my usual self it probably would have scared her away.
We fell in love rather quickly after that first date. I found myself exaggerating how long I had known her and how long we had been dating. We moved in together after 4 months and bought a house together that next year. It turned out that there wasn't another parent to her child and I adopted him the following year. Six years later we adopted another boy
12 years later we are more in love than we ever have been and life just continues to get better every day. We have had some challenges along the way and our relationship has grown deeper as a result.
She is truly the love of my life
Advice
- You gotta kiss a lot of frogs and look under a lot of rocks to find the right one.
- Get out there and start looking. Don't wait for the "one" to come to you. Go out and find her! Life is too short to be waiting around.
