Love Finds You When You Least Expect It

Share Your Story: How did you meet your partner?

Where I met my partner?

Our parents were close friends and we knew each other as kids (well, while I was a kid anyway - we have a 12yr age gap).

I'd always had the biggest crush on her, but for most part, I was too young to understand what being lesbian meant. I just remember being extremely possessive of her in my teens.

How we fell in love

I was 18 when I had come out to my family and she was most intrigued by my lifestyle. She always had a lot of questions but at the time, it was purely out of fascination. About a year later, she had begun divorce preceedings and her and her 1 year old son were living with my family. I had just begun dating someone I met at varsity and I think, for the first time, she truly saw who I was - I think up until then, she had always looked at me as more of a little sister.

Once her divorce had been settled, she moved back to her hometown, a few hundred kilometers from where I lived. While I was on vacation visiting her, it became apparent that her questions about my sexuality wasn't just taking an interest in my life anymore.

After a lot of hinting and suggestive comments she finally kissed me late one night.

I was like something out of a movie where I could've sworn time stood still. It was such a remarkable moment that right there I looked up at the clock because I wanted to remember the exact moment - knowing my life was forever changed.

9 years later, she walks into a room and still takes my breathe away. She makes me laugh, makes me weak in the knees when she smiles and can heal any trouble with the touch of her hand.

Our son is now 10 and we look forward to adding another little one to our family in the near future.
