Where I met my partner?
I met my partner online through a popular social networking site. At the time, I was open about my bisexuality and she had not yet fully admitted her sapphic nature yet. We were both in relationships with men at the time, and our crushes on one another developed secretly as we became fast friends who emailed regularly to share our life stories.
How we fell in love
We fell in love in the first few months that we corresponded, but out of respect for the other's relationship, we said nothing about our deep desire to explore a relationship with one another. My initial interest in her was because we shared the same Meyers-Briggs psychological test results... We are both INFJs. I was also interested by her culture, because a relative of mine also came from the same general area near the Spanish border with France. So I sent a preliminary hello email to her, the introduction to what would become the lady love of a lifetime.
Over the course of two years, some major life changes happened for me, including a cross-country move and several job changes, and we lost touch. One day, my male partner began writing her again, as he had also become penfriends with her, and spilled my secret that I was definitely interested in her as a girlfriend. I had just gotten out of my first polyamorous relationship with a woman, which did not end well at all, so I was reluctant to try my hand at it again. I decided that I did indeed love this girl, and finally overcame my bashfulness to ask her the big question that I was going to ask her in May 2007, but could not. So a year and half later, she sent me a heart saying that I could take it, that it was mine to keep. It was one of the sweetest and most exciting moments in my whole life.
We continued to correspond passionately over a few months, and since then, she has come to visit me for several extended stays here... she is my love, my happiness, my joy, my little Basque woman. I'll never forget when she stepped off that plane for the first time, totally dressed in my favorite color. The way it felt to hold someone that you know so well but have never met before was magic. We knew in that moment that we were made for one another, and that we never wanted to be apart again.
My plans are to get married to my beautiful elegant brunette Spaniard as soon as I can. I cannot believe I am so lucky to have found a girl who is smart, sweet, kind, understanding, good, strong, affectionate and who loves me with all her heart. I miss her so much, and I hope she hurries to my arms soon, because I can't imagine life without her. She is my queen, and I wish to give her all the best I can. I want to grow old with her, want her to be the mother of my children. Sometimes we make strong wishes... and mine was a woman I could love with all my heart who would love me back. My dream came true...
Advice
- Be patient if you're in a long-distance relationship. Remember that it's the little things that count... planning sweet little online meetings as a couple, even sending cheesy little memes really makes all the difference.
- Work towards the common goal of eventually being together physically. Set small mini-goals and meet them. Encourage one another to tackle obstacles like visas and job applications.
- Learn one another's native language. Sometimes you can find out valuable things expressed better in a native tongue than in a foreign one.
- Respect, love, understanding and compromise are essential.
