We Had Just Turned 16

Share Your Story: How did you meet your partner?

From Liz

Where I met my partner?

I met my partner on the first day of year 11. I was just turned 16. I say met, I had crushed on her for almost 3 years but the only time I had ever spoken to her before that day (Sept. 3 2006) was to help her with her science. I was the class geek and help everyone, but when I helped her, I just glowed (or so my friends say). Anyway on this day I met my love. We got put next to each other in a seating plan and we had our first real conversation.

How we fell in love

We fell in love over the summer of 2007. I had gone the whole school year sitting next to her on a Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and I felt like I was going to explode. It was the last day of high school I just knew what I had to do. I told my friends what I was going to do and they called me crazy and told me she would break my heart. It was common knowledge at the time that she was to go off and marry our schools football star. I didn't care about that I had to tell her how I felt. I found her, signed her shirt and she signed mine. I asked her if I could talk to her privatley. She agreed and we went behind the music block. I took a deep breath in and said "you know that I'm gay, and the truth is I like you and have since the first moment I saw you. I know that nothing can happen between us but I just wanted you to know." I bowed my head and turned to leave but she grabbed my arm and kissed me! My heart exploded, or at least I thought it did. The rest is history. But as I look at her, sleeping next to me I know she's my one. This morning is her birthday, there's a present in each room all pointing towards the big one. The engagement ring I bought three months ago. Fingers crossed.

Advice

  • Be patient
  • follow your heart
  • don't judge a book by it's cover
  • love is a two way street, not a tug of war
  • allow your friends to look after you, value thier opinions but in the end remember it's your decision
  • waiting, loving and, watching from a distance may sceme like an eternity but trust your gut and take a chance and you might just spend a lifetime with the woman who adores you like the breath of life itself and who your adore ten times more.
