Where I met my partner?
Paula & I met here on Lesbian Life, actually. She posted questions about hiking in Tennessee, which is where I live. I started telling her about the Smokies, & she told me about where she lived in Florida. We hit it off immediately, & soon we were e-mailing each other every day. Then we traded phone numbers.
How we fell in love
We actually met after only about a month. It's by far the craziest thing I've ever done, but I invited her to visit me in Tennessee. The day I picked her up at the airport, I was a nervous wreck. What if she was an ax murderer, or we didn't end up liking each other in person at all?
We hadn't traded pictures, so I had no idea what she looked like until she actually flew in. We went straight to a restaurant to eat dinner, & I enjoyed stealing glances at her.
The airline had lost her luggage, & she had been forced to switch planes several time during her trip. Paula fell asleep as soon as we got to my house, so I called the airport & arranged to have her luggage delivered. When I saw her sleeping so peacefully on the couch, I couldn't resist-I stole a kiss!
The trip went well. We saw tons of sites in Nashville that I had never gone too, since I live here & had never bothered to do "tourist stuff." We found out we enjoyed being with each other, & by the end of the trip had decided to have a long distance relationship. She sure wasn't easy though-she made me woo her, & I really worked hard at it!
Advice
- Long distance is hard, but there is a lot we do to make it better. We talk on the phone every day, text each other, & drive/fly to see each other nearly every month. We also have this funny thing we do, where we rent the same movie & watch it over the phone together. I also read to her. We know that someday one of us will have to move, but haven't worked out the details yet. The great part about the relationship is that since we have to work hard at it, we appreciate each other a lot more & really cherish the time we have together.
