I've often heard Black lesbians describe themselves as a triple minority. They're women, they're Black and they're gay. Being part of a small minority can be isolating, especially when you rarely see yourself represented in popular culture or the media. Until Sheryl Swoopes came out last month, there were no major African American lesbian role models for us to look to. Does knowing one WNBA star is a lesbian really help the small-town Tennessee dyke or young butch growing up in the city? It may. But what will help more is to find a community of people who are like you and understand you. That's where these websites and organizations come in. Here are the top 10 groups or websites for lesbians of African descent.
