The other night I was watching The Real L Word and the cast was talking about "100 Footers," basically lesbians that you can spot from 100 feet away. I had to laugh, because I think for sure, I'm a 100 footer. But I can't even say for sure what makes me one. I think even outside of the lesbian community people recognize me as queer. What do you think makes someone a 100 footer? Is it the dress? Hairstyle? Way they walk or hold themselves? Do you think you are a 100-footer? Why or why not?

It’s definitely simple to spot a lesbian 100 ft away.
Short hair, Clothing choices, The walk.
(You the one I’m talking about surely)
I for one love 100 footers, that way you can check girls out shamelessly the majority of the time without them noticing.
i reckon its the way the straight comunity preiceve us to be.you know the short hair confident walk ect.
i am about 70 im still a teen so people usually just think of me as a tomboy LOL so i get of easy.
I’m probably one too. It’s still a stereotype though, there are definitely plenty of women who have short hair, don’t wear make up, have ‘the walk’ and are happily married with children. Plenty of women in rural/farming communities are like this but are completely heterosexual at the same time!
I notice: short hair, no purse, swagger, mainly swagger.
I’m not a 100-footer but wear no makeup, have a swagger, and carry things only in my back pocket. Someone needs to make pants with bigger pockets too I might add. When I’m with my wife, however, things change a little. We look like a lesbian couple.
I forgot something: here on East Coast, older women have dykey hairdos. Don’t know why. But it’s obvious they’re straight except for the hair.
People are always shocked when they find out I’m a lesbian. I’m probably about a 7-10 LOL
When I’m with my GF and my friends, women outside my circle get a confused look on their faces—is she or isn’t she? I’m definitely not “girly” (no dresses, purses, etc.) but I have long hair, wear a bit of make-up and have a girl next door look.
BTW, I love the 100-footers.
I can’t say that I’m a 100 footer. I’ve shocked more than a handful of guys when I tell them I’m into girls. I guess I have the stereotypical ’straight-girl’ look. Long hair, curves, skin-tight clothes. I like being ‘girly’. Makes me feel good about myself.
well, i’m not a 100 footer, no ones noticed at 1 foot XD. I started growing my hair out, I somtimes wear skirts, never makeup… People have said I “hide it” or “Dont look it” lots of times, strange :\
A lot of women think I’m gay. And it doesn’t matter what I’m wearing. I don’t wear men’s clothing, baggy jeans, tee shirts and I don’t have a short hair cut either. I dress like a women 99.9% of the time (I’m not Booshie), but I look like a women. I get a lot of attention form men and women.
The only way I can spot a so called “100 footer” is if they are soft butch, queer and or extremely butchy. I myself look straight. I am extremely femme, I dress that way and carry myself that way and I couldn’t use my “gaydar” to spot another one like me (aka lipstick femme) either. I know it puts the harder more edgy ones in a stereotype but its true and that’s how you feel comfortable then rock it, it makes my job less stressful trying to fine me one.
I am a 100 footer. I don’t mind the sterotype. I am who I am. Plus it lets the femme women know who and what I am. Now granted I do still dress up and even wear make up some also. I have slacks and maybe one dress (don’t know if it still fits though). LOL. I like ‘em femme and butch.
I totally agree with katie. I’m exactly the sam
I’m definitely not a “100 footer”. I wear tight clothes and just look super feminine. Sometimes even other lesbians don’t believe me when i tell them i’m gay. It’s kind of frustrating.
