A federal judge will announce his decision on Prop 8, the ballot measure in California that outlawed same-sex marriage. The judge will rule whether denying gays and lesbians to marry is unconstitutional. No matter what the decision is, expect an appeal and to eventually see this case wind up in the U.S. Supreme Court. The decision will be announced today between 1-3pm PST.

Update:
Prop 8 declared unconstitutional. Vaughn R. Walker, the chief judge of the Federal District Court in San Francisco ruled that Prop 8 unfairly targets gays and lesbians. Don't rush to California to get married yet, though. The judge also issued a stay, meaning the ruling does not go into effect immediately. As stated earlier, an appeal is expected to be filed, taking this case to the next level. In any case, this ruling is good news for marriage equality.

Appeal or no appeal this is a great day for our community and we should celebrate in any way that we see fit!
Congrats to all, this is a step in the right direction!
Katy,
I totally agree with you!
i’m so glad there’s a site that has positive comments. i’ve been reading about how gay people “should be thrown into ovens alive” and that we’re “part of a misogynist cult” (for gay mean, i think they mean). this is getting ridiculous.
This gives me hope! My partner and I have been together for almost ten years and “married” for nearly seven… I want to be able to take those quotation marks away and make her my legal wife.
Call me an idealist, but I really think this will open doors for marriage freedom in other states and maybe even lead to federal marriage equality.
